Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka
In the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, Neil Patrick Harris plays the role of Barney Stinson, a character who is always chasing after the ladies. In real life, Harris is happily married to actor and chef David Burtka, and they both have incredible talent in their respective fields.
The two met in 2004, and Burtka actually also appeared on How I Met Your Mother as Scooter. Harris and Burtka kept their engagement a secret for five years before making it official in 2014. The two also have fraternal twins whom they welcomed in 2011 through a surrogate.
Ellen Page & Samantha Thomas
Actress Ellen Page married Emma Portner in secret after only dating for six months in 2018. The Umbrella Academy star took to Instagram to share photos from the big day, wherein she chose to wear jeans teamed with trainers.
Page had previously dated Samantha Thomas for 18 months before their split. She also famously came out of the closet during Valentine's Day Human Rights Campaign in 2014. She explained that the years she spent in the closet took a heavy toll on her mental health as well as her relationships. She finished off saying that she’s now found inner peace.
Ricky Martin & Jwan Yosef
Ricky Martin spilled the beans about his impending nuptials to Syrian-born painter Jwan Josef on The Ellen Show in 2016. The year 2018 was a special one for Ricky and Jwan as they got married and welcomed a baby girl named Lucia Martin-Joseph to the family.
The two are also co-parenting Martin’s twins, Valentino and Matteo, who are now 10 years old. The two haven’t shied away from sharing their love on Instagram, which just happens to be where they met. Martin told E! News that they chose to have a private ceremony for their nuptials, and he doesn’t think that a grand event is necessary to marry the one you love.
Lily Tomlin & Jane Wagner
Lily Tomlin and her significant other, Jane Wagner, have been together for an impressive 45 years. The two made it official by tying the knot in 2013. But they told People they had tried to get their marriage certificate in secret a few weeks before that.
Tomlin explained that they went to Van Nuys because they didn’t want the news about their nuptials spread all over the news. They held an intimate ceremony at their friend’s house. And since they didn’t have rings, they exchanged jewelry. When it comes to working, they often collaborate professionally with Wagner serving as Tomlin’s writing partner.
Jodie Foster & Alexandra Hedison
Actress Jodie Foster is widely regarded as a great actress, and she’s managed to keep her private life relatively hidden from the public. She started dating actress, director, and professional photographer Alexandra Hedison in 2013. And just a year later, they walked down the aisle.
Foster decided to come out as gay at the age of 51, and she did it in a grand way while delivering a Golden Globes speech. Foster had previously been in a relationship with Cydney Bernard for 20 years until 2008, and they had children together.
RuPaul & Georges LeBar
RuPaul leads an extravagant life as the host of the famous reality show RuPaul Drag Race. That’s why it’s quite surprising that he managed to keep his romantic life under wraps. He had been together with his partner Georges LeBar for 23 years before he announced that he was married.
They tied the knot in 2017, and he made the announcement on Hollywood Today Live. RuPaul explained that LeBar isn’t particularly a fan of showbiz, and that’s why they kept their relationship private. RuPaul shared that while LeBar owns a 6,000-acre property, he prefers retreating to Maui or Wyoming, which he considers one of the world’s most isolated places.
Samira Wiley & Lauren Morelli
Actress Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli met while filming Orange is the New Black. Morelli, who is one of the show’s writers, chose to divorce her husband after realizing that she was gay. She explained that it happened when she was writing the gay love scenes for the show.
Wiley explained that she was first attracted to Morelli watching her being in charge around the set. The two went to the altar in 2017 and had their nuptials in Palm Springs. They followed through with two honeymoons, first heading over to Disneyland before they flew to Italy.
Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi
Ellen DeGeneres doesn’t need an introduction and neither does her wife, actress/model/ philanthropist Portia De Rossi. DeGeneres received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her LGBT rights advocacy efforts. DeGeneres and De Rossi started dating back in 2004, and they made things official walking down the aisle in 2008.
Ellen made the special announcement about their impending nuptials on her show just around the time that the California Supreme Court legalized gay marriages. They had an intimate ceremony attended by only 19 guests at Ellen’s deluxe house. Ellen's eponymous talk show is still going strong since it started airing in 2003.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson & Justin Mikita
Modern Family star Jesse Ferguson is set to celebrate his sixth wedding anniversary with husband Justin Mikita. Ferguson and Mikita walked down the aisle in 2013. And instead of receiving gifts from their guests, they asked them to donate to the marriage equality organization, Tie the Knot.
The two co-founded the charitable organization to champion for the rights of the LGBT community in America. The organization releases ties seasonally and donates the proceeds to other LGBT causes. The two have openly shared that they want to start a family someday, and we believe that they would make great parents.
Elton John & David Furnish
Renowned musician Elton John needs no introduction alongside his husband David Furnish. Since 1993, the two have been the most public faces of celebrity gay coupling. Elton and David entered a civil partnership in 2005, but it wasn’t until 2014 that they were able to legally get married.
The two met at a point when John had just kicked his alcohol and drug abuse problem. He told Parade that the attraction he felt for Furnish was immediate. He said that he knew that Furnish was the one because he wasn’t afraid of the skeletons of his past and John’s fame.
Robin Roberts & Amber Laign
In late 2013, Robin Roberts shared a Facebook post revealing that she was gay. It was at the time when she was battling breast cancer, and she had kept her life relatively private until then. She even received a nod from Michelle Obama who tweeted that she was happy for Roberts and her girlfriend Amber Laign.
In 2014, she shared on The Ellen Show that they had met nine years prior on a blind date. Laign stayed by her side when she received a myelodysplastic syndrome diagnosis and went through a bone marrow transplant.
Alan Cummings & Grant Shaffer
We can all agree that Alan Cummings is a great character actor. He met Grant Staffer, they dated for a year, and they got engaged in 2006. However, they waited another year before walking down the aisle.
Shaffer illustrates for publications like Interview Magazine and The New Yorker. He also teaches art classes at a high school. In 2012, the two remarried to celebrate their anniversary. The two were drawn together by their love for running and dated for 21 years before getting hitched in 2008. In fact, they became part the legacy of the first gay couples who received marriage licenses in the U.S. Takei explained that they are the perfect match because he is easygoing with details while he describes Altman as a detail-obsessed, control freak.
Lance Bass & Michael Turchin
Former Nsync singer Lance Bass and his beau, Michael Turchin, were the very first American gay couple who televised their nuptials on cable TV. Their big day in 2014 was very touching complete with puppy ring bearers and hand-written vows.
They chose a royal theme for their nuptials at the Park Plaza Hotel, which Bass explained reflected their idea of a dream ceremony. The couple shared with Us Weekly in 2019 that they are trying to have twins via surrogacy. Bass said that they have already gone through seven donors and are hopeful that the next one will work out.
Cynthia Nixon & Christine Marinoni
Actress Cynthia Nixon is known for her days starring in one of the most popular TV shows alongside Sarah Jessica Parker. Off the screen, she’s a dedicated advocate for marriage equality. She has also been married to Christine Marinoni since 2012.
The two actually got engaged while attending a rally in support of gay marriage. Nixon had shared that she enjoyed being engaged and couldn’t wait for gay marriage to become legal. They didn’t have to wait too long because, three years later, they could finally exchange vows legally. The year before their nuptials saw Marinoni giving birth to Max Ellington, their son.
Tom Ford & Richard Buckley
Designer Tom Ford and his better half, Richard Buckley, are amongst the people who believe that they fell in love at first sight. They are also one of the couples on this list who have been together for an incredibly long time, having started dating in 1986.
They had to wait 27 years before they could make their relationship official with a marriage ceremony in 2014. He made the announcement about their nuptials soon after at an Apple store, explaining that they married in the States. The couple has a son together.
Wanda Sykes & Alex Sykes
Wanda Sykes is known for her portfolio of comedic appearances, but she initially kept her life off-screen relatively private. In 2008, she decided to come out as gay a month after exchanging vows with Alex. Wanda told Oprah that she didn’t understand the resistance against gay marriage (at that time).

Famous fashion designer Michael Kors became engaged to fellow designer Lance LePere in 2011 when gay marriage became legal in New York. They then wed that same year. Since then, they are undeniably amongst the most fashionable couples whenever they step out together.
They had a lovely beach ceremony just weeks following their engagement announcement. The 59-year-old Kors shared that they were excited to finally marry in their home state after having spent many years together. They decided not to have a grand party and instead went for an intimate ceremony.
Jillian Michaels & Heidi Rhoades
Fitness trainer Jillian Michaels is well known for her series of fat-burning routines as well as the various weight loss shows she has graced. Just Jillian highlights Michaels’ personal life including her relationship with talent manager Heidi Rhoades.
After spending nearly nine years together, Michaels and Rhoades split up in 2018, which was two years after they got engaged. Michaels made the announcement that they were no longer a couple through her Instagram account. Sources told Us Magazine that they are focusing on co-parenting their kids together. In July 2019, it was reported that Michaels is now dating designer Deshanna Marie Minuto.
Daniel Franzese and Joseph Bradley Phillips
You might know comedian Daniel Franzese from Mean Girls. He dated Joseph Bradley, a stylist, for two years before asking him the big question. Franzese actually popped the question at a North Hollywood Starbucks.
Sadly, they never made it to the altar and Franzese told People that they chose to continue on as friends. He didn't reveal the reason behind their split but simply said that he hopes that they'll cross paths going forward. Jim Parsons’ character Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory is credited for popularizing the word "Bazinga". While Sheldon ended up marrying Amy Farrah Fowler in the show, Jim, on the other hand, tied the knot with Todd Spiewak in 2017.
Parsons surprised many with the news that he has been dating Spiewak, who is an art director, for 15 years before they finally got hitched. He explained that he never viewed their relationship as activism but rather an act of love. The two co-run Wonderful Productions. Through the company, they’ve worked on international advertisements for Bankmed and Pepsi.
Melissa Etheridge & Linda Wallem
Singer Melissa Etheridge and producer Linda Wallem were friends before they started dating and wed in 2014. Etheridge told Access that they had been friends for almost a decade, and they fell in love while caring for her four kids.
Etheridge didn’t waste any time sharing the news that she was about to get married following the Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act. They had their nuptials at the San Ysidro Ranch. While Etheridge sported a suit for the big occasion, Wallem walked down the aisle with a bouquet of white and purple flowers.

Chely Wright & Lauren Blitzer
Chely Wright made headlines back in 2010 as the first country artist to publicly declare that she was gay. She then announced that she was pregnant with twins and now parents the kids with wife, author Lauren Blitzer. Wright and Blitzer married in 2011 at a private Connecticut residence.
Wright also dedicates her time to LGBT causes to help those finding their way to integrate into the gay community. She said that since coming out, she has spoken at churches and schools with many people telling her that she touched their lives with her story. Wright explained that they are raising their kids Jewish, but they'll still observe Christian holidays.
Sara Gilbert & Linda Perry
In 2014, Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert had their nuptials in Malibu, California. The year after, Gilbert then gave birth to their son Emilio. Gilbert announced the news during a taping of The Talk. The two were already parenting two of Gilbert's children from a previous relationship, but they agreed to have a child whom they shared.
Gilbert, who started in Roseanne, created The Talk. She stepped down from her role as a producer of the show in April 2019. Her reason was to focus on other ventures and give more time to her family.
Barry Manilow & Garry Kief
Barry Manilow is easily amongst the list of Hollywood legends with a career that goes 50 years back. Garry Kief, who also serves as his manager, is his husband. When the two met in 1978, Kief apparently never knew who Manilow was and that he had already released several records at that point.

Nate Berkus & Jeremiah Brent
These two designers hooked up and dated for a year. Jeremiah Brent and Nate Berkus tied the knot in 2014 at the iconic New York Public Library. Berkus previously worked as The Oprah Winfrey Show’s resident interior designer. So naturally, their wedding guest list included Oprah, and the Oprah Winfrey Network’s co-president, Sheri Salata, officiated their ceremony.

Hyde came out of the closet in 2007. During his acceptance speech at the Tonys, he thanked his better half for sticking by his side for over two decades. Since 2018, the two have made Los Angeles their home alongside their two pet dogs. Since 1994, Hyde has dedicated his efforts to charity to help fight Alzheimer’s.
Ryan Murphy & David Miller
Glee is a TV favorite for many, and Ryan Murphy is the brains behind the musical show as well as American Horror Story. He dated David Miller for 15 years before they married in 2011. The next year, on Christmas Eve, they grew their family by welcoming son Logan.
Two years later, they announced that they had welcomed their second son, Ford, through gestational surrogacy. In 2016, the couple shared the sad news that Ford has cancer. Murphy said that their son is thriving and credited the Los Angeles-based Children’s Hospital for helping their son get through the difficulties.
Luke Evans & Jon Kortajarena
It isn't surprising for celebrities to be in relationships off and on, and that describes actor Luke Evans and model Jon Kortajarena. In an interview with Time in 2002, Evans said that everyone in London knew that he was gay and he never tried to hide it.
Evans and Kortajarena have apparently been dating on and off since 2014. Evans told Mr. Porter in 2016 that he wasn’t dating anyone. The next year, Kortajarena posted photos on Instagram showcasing his trip to Budapest where Evans happened to have been filming.
Tig Notaro & Stephanie Allynne
Actress/writer Stephanie Allynne and comedian Tig Notaro got married in 2015. They met while filming In a World, and Allynne explained that she had never dated a female before then. True to the saying that love is blind, she fell for Notaro as a person.
The next year following their nuptials, they grew their family by welcoming twins Max and Finn. It wasn't easy for them to find the right surrogate, but fate was on their side and it eventually all worked out. Their twins are now bilingual, thanks to their nanny who taught them Spanish.
Matt Dallas & Blue Hamilton
Singer Blue Hamilton and his husband Kyle XY star Matt Dallas took their time before going to the altar. After dating for six years, they exchanged vows and welcomed a son through adoption.
Hamilton explained that they researched a lot about their options to have a kid. He learnt about fostering to adopt, and they went that route. A couple of weeks after they got certified, their son Crow was placed with them. The two also have a YouTube channel that boasts of 300k subscribers where they share more knowledge about the process of fostering a child.
