Daughters to Work Day!
In 2020, many people were stuck working from home, and journalists were no different. They also had to adapt to their new work environments, doing their reports from the comfort of their own abodes, and no one understood the challenge this posed better than Lonnie Quinn.
Quinn is the meteorologist for WCBS and was doing his weather segment when his daughters decided to join him on the air. While most people would be distracted by the attention, Lonnie continued with his presentation, even finding some humor in it. And who knew? The episode eventually gained much more traction on social media.
In Other Sleepy News
Working for long hours or early in the morning can sometimes take a toll on us; hence, getting exhausted is understandable. One morning, on the "Fox & Friends" show, host Tucker Carlson couldn't resist the urge to take a short power nap during the commercial break, sure that he would wake up once the break was over.
However, he seemingly forgot, and when the show returned, Tucker was still in dreamland, and instead of his co-anchors waking him up, they left him to enjoy his sleep in front of the cameras. That early morning, Tucker became the news of the day and gave viewers a good dose of laughter.
A Near Kiss
Erin Andrews was reporting on the 2013 Daytona racing event when rapper 50 Cent, who was also in attendance, thought it would be a good idea to give her a kiss on the cheek. However, it turned out pretty awkwardly as she ducked her hed to evade the kiss.
Andrew's reaction caused a stir on social media, but she couldn't care less, as she was trying to remain professional. Moreover, Andrews cleared the air by saying she'd looked agitated because the drivers weren't in their right positions, and that she was going to Danica Patrick when she bumped into 50 Cent.
A Size Too Small
One thing that we all know is that we'd better be wearing the proper outfit if we expect something to get us in full joyous mode. Unfortunately, it seems that Romanian meteorologist Roxana Vancea didn't get the memo, as her breasts seemed to slip out while she was excitedly giving a weather update. Her outfit was not that spacious, so it was quite unavoidable.
Luckily for Vancea, nothing bad came out of the situation. Instead, she ended up accumulating numerous followers on social media and receiving some modeling offers she couldn't say no to. Moreover, she didn't lose her reporting job, so it was all well and good.
Cat Out of the Bag
Being a news anchor and reporter means having to deal with stories that may not make everyone comfortable, including the anchors themselves. While this rarely happens, the moon was blue the day news presenter Charlo Greene was airing an episode about a substance that had been banned from consumption.
Unfortunately, a well-known organization that endorsed the said substance's legalization in Alaska was actually owned by Greene, which came as quite a shocker to the audience and her production team alike. Furthermore, she had already planned her resignation from the channel she worked on to get more involved in the organization's endeavors.
Raising From Work
While the world is rapily shifting towards remote working, working from home has its fair share of pros and cons. Despite the fact that we can work in a familiar environment and at our own pace, disruptions are part of the norm, especially if there are children to contend with. Leslie Lopez, a KABC meteorologist, found this out in an adorable fashion when her son decided to join in on the morning news action.
As an experienced mother and anchor, Lopez was hardly fazed when her son came crawling. She instead picked him up and went on reporting as if nothing had happened, even telling the viewers his age.
In Other Dog News...
News anchors know pretty well that they have to be prepared for anything that happens on-screen. However, nothing could have prepared Ilona Linarte for the unexpected guest she had on her late-night show. She alerted her viewers when she jumped and screamed, and it turned out that a Labrador Retriever had strayed under the desk.
Once Linarte looked startled, the dog took time to shine, jumping next to her and even smiling at the camera like a new cohost. Sadly, Linarte is a cat lady and she doesn't like dogs, so we might not be seeing more of our late-night guest anymore.
Not Your Typical Cohost
There are many reasons why we would rather stay at our workplace than work from home, and this is just another one. The internet is not short of working from-home bloopers, Spanish reporter Alfonso Merlos added one more when someone else appeared in the background while he was anchoring.
It turns out that Merlos' girlfriend was caught on camera, and it caused ripples on the internet, considering that he had only recently gotten a divorce from his wife. Well, maybe that's a good lesson never to let your partner walk around in their birthday suit while you work, especially if you're not yet married.
Guest Steals Show
Animals bring a sense of entertainment to our lives. However, they can be distracting and difficult to control. For example, it's not unusual for dogs to slip out of their handler's hands and play with others. This happened to Mike Sobel when Ripple, who came on the show as a guest, suddenly thought it was a good idea to have fun as he gave weather updates.
It turns out that Ripple only wanted to enjoy the moment with Sobel despite him being at work. It made him laugh the whole time as he continued presenting, and luckily enough, the dog landed a gig not long after that.
A Worthy Wardrobe Malfunction
Nalié López is a Mexican meteorologist who broke the internet when she delivered a weather report dressed like she was going somewhere else other than her present job. While some news anchors pull heavy stunts every now and then, Lopez's bright red vest and pair of revealing brown shorts took the crown, though she ended up benefiting.
Her wardrobe malfunction fame kickstarted a modeling career that she never thought she would land. While she is still an occasional reporter, there's no doubt that her modeling gig is a successful side job. However unprofessional it looked, it was indeed a worthy wardrobe trick.
Nice Place to Perch?
For most people, the news is boring, and there's no need to watch it. However, it's easy to spot a few laugh-worthy moments, like what happened on KFMB network news, which proved that concept correct when a bird came visiting live on air, with Nichelle Medina and her co-host Eric Kahnert doing their usual jobs.
The bird was a scarlet ibis called Sophie, and it flew into the set and calmly perched on Medina's head. While she seemed to be unfazed by the happenings, Kahnert was not so receptive to its interaction with him. It was definitely a moment to look back at for the anchors.
Got It Covered
News anchors have two major duties: to report the news and to look good and professional while doing it. And no one can deny that Yanet Garcia takes her responsibilities very seriously indeed. She is a model and is famous for captivating her audience with not only her weather forecasts but also her short and form-fitting dresses.
On this day, though, it seems like the backstage crew needed some fun. Well, their idea was to play "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk as the weather reporter was excited. Thankfully, Yanet handled the situation like the pro that she is, laughing and even blowing a kiss at her audience. Good going, girl!
That's a Big Yawn
As an on-field journalist, having tiring days is the norm. However, overworked faces and sleep-deprived days aren't too big a price when nothing can overpower the passion one has for their job. Therefore, it didn't cause much fuss when the KSCH12 ground reporter, Deedee Sun, was caught on camera letting out a big yawn.
She looked beautiful despite being obviously exhausted from reporting a snowstorm. After that, Sun couldn't help but explain the incident, claiming that the cameraman had intentionally focused on her while she yawned massively to let out all the exhaustion she was feeling. Hopefully, she took a warm bath and napped afterward.
Work's Over, Dad
We can hardly state the need to lock the door when something important is happening inside. Yet Robert Kelly chose to leave the door open. During a live deliberation concerning the impeachment of President Park Geun-Hye, his daughters walked into the room, probably trying to get him to play with them.
That wasn't even the thick of it, as Kelly’s wife tried to salvage the situation by rushing into the room to grab the girls. Luckily, she managed to leave the room silently, and it was commendable that she played the hero who saved the day. However, the internet never forgets, and the family later became celebrities.
Chilly Undertaking
Before going on air, journalists try to make sure that everything is taken care of and running smoothly, at least for the most part. Even so, that's not usually the case, as famous weather girl Jacqueline Bennet would find out during her October 2010 segment on KRON 4.
Bennet got ready for her weather report and wore a blouse that would be suitable for the job, or so she thought. However, it turns out that she didn't consider the camera lights and the cold setting in the studio, which made the blouse look almost transparent. The malfunction hardly put her down, as she keeps updating the nation on weather matters.
That's Some Cold Reporting
Reporters always want to get the best views and shots for their viewers, especially in interviews. BBC reporter Mike Bushell had just that in mind when he was tasked with interviewing the English swimmers who had won the Commonwealth Games. It was a chance of a lifetime, and he decided to take it with all he had.
Visiting the winners in their working place, Bushell decided to jump into the swimming pool and interview them there. However, the move backfired spectacularly. He only managed to do the introduction and say congratulations before slipping into the pool together with the microphone. And that's how the interview ended.
The Famous Legs
While news anchors and presenters are required to be at their best dressing, Kimberly Guilfoyle knows what she's got and is always ready to flaunt it. As a "Fox News" anchor, she never backs away from the opportunity to show off her famously long legs while on camera. Her viewers and producers have gotten accustomed to that.
Most of her fans see no problem with that, but the more conservative viewers believe that the news anchor needs to cover up more, because they claim she distracts her audience and even fellow news anchors. It remains to be seen whether a change will come.
Transparency Taken Too Far
News is supposed to be transparent and not hide anything from looked viewers. However, it looks like meteorologist Liberte Chan took a different lesson on news transparency; otherwise, there's no way we can explain her habit of wearing dresses that blend a little too much with the screen. She once almost turned invisible because of her green dress that looked too much like the screen.
While we sincerely appreciate transparency in the news media, that was a bit too far. Luckily, a colleague offered his coat, and the producers vowed not to have a repetition. On her end, it was a lesson well learned.
Where are Your Clothes?
Weather woman Belinda Russell shocked her viewers when she appeared live on camera for her usual weather news segment. For a moment, everyone thought that she had come to work in her birthday suit. It wasn't until after taking a closer look that we realized what she was wearing, and what a relief!
After the initial shock, we discovered that she was fully dressed in a flesh-colored bodysuit. While it ddn't seem like the perfect outfit for a weather report it was understandable, as Russell is known for her unique sense of fashion, but couldn't se have chosen a different color?
Parental Guidance Advisory
2020 was quite the year for news outlets, as most anchors and reporters were required to work from home. It was eventful, as it meant there would be a lot of disruptions. Whatever may have happened to other anchors, Melinda Menza got a hefty share of the controversy.
While presenting for Sacramento's "KCRA 3," she had to step into the bathroom as the story was relevant to beauty. However, in the background, there seemed to be a man, presumably her husband, Mike de Lambert, stepping out after taking a shower. Though noone ever commented on the event, it was quite embarassing, and it went viral.
Fashion Emergency!
As much as news anchors are required to put on their best outfits, clothes can sometimes embarrass them to the point of no return. Samantha Armytage had viewers focusing on her tummy region after the program returned from a commercial break as her co-host was holding on to her waist live on air, controversially.
If David Koch had not jokingly informed us of the wardrobe malfunction his colleague was experiencing, it would be deemed unprofessional to be holding her waist like that. Poor Armytage looked so uncomfortable that she had to run off-set and buckle her belt, which she had unbuckled.
Wet at Work
Emily Jones, a "Fox Sports" presenter, must have heard enough of athletes, especially baseball players, trying to get her drenched in powerade drink. So in 2017, she cleverly carried a silly string to scare anyone trying to wet her clothes. However, it didn't quite work.
When Emily was interviewing Adrián Beltré of the Texas Rangers, two baseball players charged toward them with a bucket full of cold Powerade. Eventually, they succeed in their mission of pouring the drink on Jones, even though she also managed to spray silly string on them. The interview went on a much-needed short break before she continued.
Show-stopping Stomach
The 2020 pandemic forced many people to work from home, and while most anchors found it quite convenient, they also had to deal with interruptive family members. News reporter Jessica Lang definitely had a thing or two to say about her experience working from home.
At one point as she reported a segment, her dad made an accidental appearance in the background, revealing his well-rounded stomach while putting on a shirt. While the event wasn't aired live, Jessica still uploaded the funny video on her social media to let people see the reason she so much prefers to work from the office.
Time to Layer Up
Being in the limelight is no easy task, especially for news anchors, as their viewers take note of what they wear every day, and while other people might find it strange, journalists are used to it. Weather girl Liberte Chan has experienced that first hand, as she was going about her business when a producer handed her a jacket, live on air!
It was later revealed that most people took note of her outfit and complained about the black dress she wore. Chan did wear the coat, and while she commented that it made her feel like a librarian, she apologized and promised not to wear the dress again.
Come See Me On TV!
Well, here is a good way to define using an opportunity when you get it. This man might have been longing to be on television for a long time, so he made sure to fulfill his dream when the chance finally came. As for Wendy Burch, she was just on an outdoor reporting mission when she the man disrupted her.
While Burch didn't notice anything for a while, she couldn't help but scream when she noticed the man behind her.. Nevertheless, he ran off without harming her and having completed his mission. Reporters definitely put themselves in harm's way when reporting outside, and they have to be applauded.
A Not-So-Funny Coincidence
Hold your breath for this. Imagine watching the news about a suspect; then, when the sketch of the said person comes up, they shockingly look like the anchor. That is what happened to ABC 7's anchor Marc Brown, who was presenting the news one night in the '90s when the unexpected occurred to him.
While this was just a case of pure coincidence; Brown had nothing to do with the said outlaw activities the sketched person was involved with, but it didn't stop people from noticing their uncanny resemblance. The photo is one of the most famous anchors controversial, and it has caused quite a stir on social media over the years.
Not the Expected Advice
Anyone who knows Kimberly Guilfoyle knows how outspoken she is, with her opinions dividing people more often than not. The attorney-turned-journalist has received some flack for her comments in the past, and she got on the wrong side of the younger generation in 2014 when she remarked that young ladies didn't have enough experience to vote.
That didn't sit well with the millennials and generation Z folks, who were in a position to influence the political sphere by exercising their right to vote. Kimberly drew more ire when she suggested that young people go on dating sites instead of heading to the ballot box during the then-upcoming election. Not what we expected.
Who do we Blame?
Tomasz Schafernaker was caught off-guard live on television looking disappointed. This was because he got no response from the technical crew after saying, 'Hello.' Due to the silence, he thought he was off-air, and his sad facial expression tells the whole story.
Without noticing that he was live, Schafernaker started wandering in the media room, picking his nails and clothing, not knowing thousands of eyes were already watching him. Of course, there's no one to blame except the technical difficulties that marred the segment that day. We wonder how he felt when he realized that the production team had not given him notice that he was already being broadcast.
Like Nothing Happened
Being a news anchor is no easy job, and commercial breaks come in handy to give a much-needed breather to the anchors. BBC left its audience hanging when it went through what seemed to be the most prolonged technical difficulty than had ever happened before, and that too during its biggest show, "BBC News at Ten."
The presenter, Hugh Edwards, wasn't aware of anything. He was sitting at his desk comfortably reading through his notes. It took almost three minutes to get back in order as the channel kept maneuvering between showing the presenter and some other video clips. Luckily, Edwards continued with the show as if nothing had happened.
Let's Take a Breather
Journalists, like most of us, can have things happen out of their control, even though they seem to have everything figured out. The unexpected happened when CNN anchor Poppy Harlow was discussing the war on ISIS with reporter Becky Anderson live on air and everything was going on well until Harlow, who was pregnant at the time, started having trouble with her breathing.
Immediately the producers noticed what was going on, CNN cut to commercials, and as expected, fans were left wondering what had happened. Harlow returned to the show okay and explained that she had passed out due to the heat. At least she was okay!
Definitely Not Him
On-air bloopers are common, but they are difficult to save when they happen in the middle of serious news items. We applaud the quick thinking of the "Channel 3" presenter who kept her calm in this particular case and acknowledged the elephant in the room. "Well, no, this is not Rodney Stanger obviously," she said.
In an attempt to put up a hamster's photo during a segment about a missing girl, the producers put this up. The police had speculations about who the perpetrator could be; a man called Rodney Stanger. Nonetheless, it was when the channel should have aired the man's image that the rodent's picture went up instead.
Only the Top Matters
2020 was a tough year for everyone, especially for those in the entertainment industry. Despite the hardships, there were plenty of bloopers that made us crack up with laughter, especially involving television broadcasters without pants. One such case involved Majid Asfour who went on air looking all polished and sharp from the waist upwards but with no trousers below.
As long as the top was okay, there's no need to focus on the bottom, and we may have never found out if it weren't for a whimsical family member who snapped the photo and shared it online. Hopefully, Asfour wasn't embarrassed by the photo.
Wrong Sport
Big things have small beginnings, and Charissa Thompson is probably the best evidence of that. Before she became the seasoned sports anchor that we all know, she worked for ESPN and SportsNation. At SportsNation, she was the apple of the eye of the executives, and her job there gave her a lot of memorable moments.
Before leaving her sports segment that she co-hosted with Marcellus Willey at the network, Thompson aired an episode that showed her being hit right in the eye with a paper ball. From her reaction, it must have stung, and we're glad it was an off-air incident.
At the Count of Three, One...
Among the myriads of professions in the world, we'd agree that news reporters have one of the riskiest daily schedules, chasing and collecting leads. Always on their toes to deliver the most relevant info to us, they often stand face-to-face with peril. This was on show when two KTLA anchors were on air when a strong earthquake hit.
Let's not lie, anyone would panic and even forget about the camera. Yet, owing to the training of these journalists, one of them quickly took cover under a table and others did the same. Watching the recording might make someone grin, but we have to applaud the hosts for keeping their cool.
Boundless Prankster
It's so challenging for reporters who go out to the field to report the news because they just never know what they might encounter over there. One of their problems is dealing with pranksters who don't know boundaries, especially when the reporter is live on-air with thousands of people watching.
When this journalist was reporting from Washington Square Park, a random prank guy did the unthinkable. He approached him and lowered his pants in front of the camera. The prankster had put him through an embarrassment, and he tried to chase him, but he couldn't, considering his pants were down, and the camera was rolling.
Leave While You Can!
In some parts of the world, temperatures can go to the highest we've ever seen. However, it rarely goes as high as 2,960 degrees! This points towards every reason weatherman Cory McCloskey must have been shocked to be reporting temperatures over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit in cities within the Phoenix area. It won’t take a genius to know that something wasn’t right with those numbers.
Props to McCloskey, though, who played it cool, despite the really ambiguous temperatures he was announcing. And he has a flair for drama, so, admitting that although evacuating people was beyond his jurisdiction, he sarcastically suggested everyone get away while they still could.
Wait, That's Not News!
Journalism is a highly sought-after career field, and youngsters are increasingly lured toward it. However, a few years into the job, people realize they often have to report on incidents they scantly have any interest in. To make matters worse, some stories they report don't even count as news.
John Brown had the guts to put forth a full-fledged rant about it on national television when he was asked to cover the naming of Kylie Jenner's new rabbit. While it could easily have raged as a controversy, but the public received it well, and most people sided with his opinion.
Meant for Just One
News reporting requires all the apt attention that one can gather. However, there are times when people do not view this activity with the gravity it deserves, as demonstrated by the young man from Santa Barbara. By interrupting a live report, it was clear he wanted to sneak a quick photo of reporter John Palminteri.
Rightly so, this did not sit well with the anchor, who immediately shoved the youngster away from the frame. Palminteri, despite being one of the nicest guys in the industry, is not pleased with acts that appear to disregard his work. Next time the photobomber will have to wait for an invitation.
Your New Co-Presenter
When the unexpected happens, they are very enjoyable, especially if they lead to bloopers. These moments are rare on news desks, but this one with meteorologist Jennifer Ketchmark has to be one of our favorites. While the producers were switching backgrounds to a beautiful sky, a hornet flew right in front of the lens and Jennifer was too afraid that she fled from the frame.
That may have been hard to come back from, but Ketchmark composed herself and completed the weather report. Thanks to her, we’re enjoying a viral reel that cracks us up every time. Luckily, she expected it to go viral!
It’s Luck!
Grammar can have a large influence, depending on how we use it. Holly Pietrzak, a Virginia news anchor, said the “F” word on air: and whether it was on purpose or a mere accident, that moment will go down as one of the greatest in the history of bloopers.
What Pietrzak intended to say was, "Teens are in luck of finding summer jobs." However, her mouth had other ideas. On the bright side, though, at least she went viral, even if not for the best of things. Even her failed attempt to play it cool is quite admirable and while she was forgiven after an apology, it was never forgotten.
Some Extra News
Live television news can produce the most unexpected moments, but there just seems to be more hilarity when it comes to local news broadcasts. This reporter, for instance, was just trying to level up his reporting, and he somehow thought jumping in an area lake would do it.
Immediately he jumped in, the news guy found himself in a sticky situation, literally. The ground turned out to be mud, and he started sinking into the messy pit as he tried to rescue himself. At least the camera crew and the studio anchors found it amusing, and we're sure the viewers did too.
Getting Slappy On Air
News presenters are so often perfect-looking and proper that we easily forget that they are normal human beings like us. However, from time to time, they reveal a side of themselves that they rarely show on air, maybe even revealing a little too much of their personalities.
These two anchors were having a bit of on-air banter about corporal punishment when the male anchor casually asked his female colleague if she experienced it as a child and she quickly responded, "As a kid, no." An awkward pause followed, then they both tried to salvage the on-air slip while laughing at the entire ordeal.
Can't Hold It
Containing giggles can be tricky, and with an intense situation to go with it, things can quickly get out of hand—or, should we say, mouth! Now, to this, anybody can exclaim, "been there, done that," but the KFOX-TV news anchor Hema Mullur once got caught in a complicated yet hilarious incident.
It all happened while she was covering a story that had nothing laughable about it, and the reason why she couldn't control her nerves was a convicted man's mugshot. Now, to be honest, the first glance at his wide-open eyes had us grinning, too. So, understandably, Muller couldn't continue with the episode, and another presenter had to take over.
Now That's Horrible
Field reporters are usually exposed to many dangerous situations. This local reporter was covering what he described as a bird infestation in the area and instead of reporting from a safe distance, he decided that the story would have more impact if he did his report very close to the birds, and it turned out to be the worst decision he ever made.
While reporting, he got more than he bargained for when some bird droppings landed on his shoulder. At this point, it was all manageable, but it would only get worse when more of the excrement landed on his face and mouth as he looked up.
Not So Accurate, or Is It?
Misinformation on weather forecasts can be costly for news channels and their anchors. While it is important to clear the air of any misinformation about weather forecasts, it is also crucial to ensure that only accurate information is released. Weatherman Michael Fish learned this the hard way when he casually reported on a call to BBC that a woman had fears of a coming hurricane.
Fish turned out to be technically right, as the great storm in the United Kingdom in 1987 was a cyclone. However, many lives and property were lost, as it was not reported as a seriously urgent matter. He ended up apologizing, and rightly so.
